It’s a hard week to be a woman

We’ve been reminded that one of most powerful countries in the world believes we are second class citizens

That millions of people voted into the most powerful job in the world, a fascist racist criminal

I remember falling pregnant in Texas. Remember looking into my rights. Remember finding out that, should I have lost my baby, my life would not be saved. Remember recognising that I was so lucky to have a safe home, the NHS, a country that didn’t inherently hate me for my gender

But this is so much more than abortion rights

The states isn’t the first country to display this abhorrent hatred of women

Look at Afghanistan where women are banned from education, must be escorted outside at all times by men

At Iran, where women’s’ oppression is only intensifying

At Sudan where RSF fighters are raping women, where they are being disproportionally impacted by the war

Things are shifting

For the first time in the developed world young women are more likely to be in work than young men

In the uk young women now earn more than young men

Women are majority raising kids. Women are performing better in education at a younger age. Women are bringing home a good income

Yes women let’s celebrate how incredible this is for us as a gender

But this also highlights a pull away of men from society

Young male support for right wing parties is increasing

Men’s violence against women is too

Women are choosing to be single with less need for relationships

At the same time single mums are being blamed for the dissolution of the nuclear family

I’ve made many a joke about not all men with podcasts in these emails in the past and really I’m here today to highlight that really, it’s not a joke anymore

When we listen to these podcasts we platform misogynistic men and fuel their hatred towards women

We brush it under the carpet because they run in circles of people we like or because they’re the most listened to podcast in the charts or they once said something we agreed with

These podcasts have spent years feeding young men narratives that women and minority groups are the problem and in my opinion have had a huge part to play in this shift towards greater support for right wing parties

Please take time to consider, who are you gifting your energy, time and most precious thoughts to?

Mens violence against women begins at a baseline level of catcalling and locker-room humour

I question this week, does the nationwide voting of a sex offender into the worlds most powerful position begin at a baseline level of (in part) not all men with a podcast?

It’s a hard week to be a woman if you’re a woman with awareness of the happenings of the world

I just always wonder, where can I have an impact? Am I doing enough?

The more we care about the world, note our humanness and interconnectedness, the less we are preoccupied by our own struggles

The greater chunks of our time we give to compassion for others, the less we have to sit in our all-consuming thoughts of food and our bodies

Actively self-identifying as a feminist is associated with greater body satisfaction

Just a reminder that these things actually do impact yourself, your relationship with food and your body image – and that’s really why you’re here, isn’t it?

I can tell a lot about how far someone is on their journey to peace with food by how much they care about the world around them – an unexpected win of your healing journey

I would love for you to care, whatever that looks like for you

Feminism is more than your own right to abortion

That’s all for today – love to all genders
