The weekly perspective

One question to ask yourself

What's the worst that will happen?

I'm a fan of catastrophising sometimes, which is actually a thinking pattern that is often deemed as unhelpful (and is often, unhelpful). But often we avoid doing things because we're fearful of a potential outcome in our head, or we overthink things to try and find a sense of control in the uncertain, coming up with obscure outcomes. But really, what's the worst that will happen here? Will you be ok if that does happen? When haven't you survived it?

Something to consider

Every time we avoid doing something, it makes us feel weaker

Rubbish at something? Fearful of something? Every time you avoid doing the thing you know is useful, potentially joyful, you feel weaker, it confirms that you can't do it

Journal on this - what are you avoiding? What story are you telling yourself about that thing? What timeframe will you put on committing to action?

One thing I'd tell my younger self.

Don't spend so much time supporting, that you never live the reality of being fully supported

I've been asking for help recently, allowing support from others, and actively holding boundaries in relationships where, on reflection, I was the sole provider of support. It's been unbelievably freeing, connecting and actually, not as hard as I thought. Who knew? After 37 years of hyper independence and glorifying self sufficiency over everything else, that I could learn to be turned off by personal relationships that were built on me fixing, helping and supporting?

Journal on this - how do you show up in relationships? In your life? Are you the fixer, helper, supporter? How do you feel about asking for help? Can you challenge that? What would it look like to allow support?

One thing to try this week

Do one thing you've been avoiding.

Ideally, do it multiple times, but some things only require us to do them once. Like eating a Crunchie bar and realising every other bar is superior.

A few things to tell you...

One more thing...

Please share your favourite stuff.

Thank you all for continuing to share your favourite Monday email quotes. I see them all. I know how much I love seeing impactful quotes from strangers, so it means a lot that you allow me to hopefully be that person for someone else. f there's something you really relate to or know someone who'd benefit from something in this email, please share it and pay it forward. Words are magical, and if I've learned anything from writing these emails to you for years, you never know when someone needs to hear the exact thing you've got to say.
