The weekly perspective

One question to ask yourself

Is this for me or for someone else?

Pretty self-explanatory. I thought I might care about getting my exact body back postpartum, then I realised I only had that fleeting want because I wanted to show other people that I could. Not only is this massive internalised weight bias, but it's also a prime example of living for other people, or rather, for perceived acceptance from others. Think about that 'yes' you replied to a commitment, that plan you made, the offer to go way out of your way (to your own major inconvenience) - of course there's a lot to be said for selflessness and support, but are your actions really about helping others, or more about finding comfort in perceived acceptance?

Something to consider

The most interesting, fun to be around people I know, are usually the people who've been through some of the hardest of times

It's no consolation for whatever you're going through right now. But as I spoke with my mum earlier this week, I shared this exact sentiment. People who haven't experienced trauma in my life may well be securely attached by the book, but often, that's the most interesting thing about them... Be colourful, allow the mess, create some stories

One thing I'd tell my younger self.

"You can have the worst crap in the world happen to you and you can get over it. All you gotta do is survive" - Alex Karev

I've welcomed back Grey's Anatomy into my life this week, so please sit with this piece of magic from one of my all time favourites

One thing to try this week

Do something for your now-self, instead of your future self

This is very anti- self-compassion where I always recommend you ask yourself, what would your future self thank you for? We live in a world that yells - plan for your future, focus on delayed gratification. Whilst I believe these pieces of advice to be helpful, I'd love to offer a different perspective to consider. Because as Oliver Burkeman reminds us, "mortality makes it impossible to ignore the absurdity of living solely for for the future"

A few things to tell you...

The very last EIQ Nutrition as you know it opened for early bird on Friday - this is your last EVER chance to do a course that will help you support clients with navigating disordered eating (within your scope), body image & healthful fat loss - get one of the remaining spaces here and become an EIQ certified nutritionist

Is it out to want to be leaner, even if it's not for your health? We discussed this here

Get better and more efficient working with your clients by listening to Em on EIQ here

There will be no more Binge Breakthrough courses until January 2025 (when I told you this before the last intake you probably thought it was sales tekkers but alas, I don't do that, honesty only from me) - every intake we've done has sold out, I expect new year new me to be no different. So join the priority list if you struggle with binge eating and you're looking for an 8 week course to help you overcome it.

One more thing...

Please share your favourite stuff.

Thank you all for continuing to share your favourite Monday email quotes. I see them all. I know how much I love seeing impactful quotes from strangers, so it means a lot that you allow me to hopefully be that person for someone else. f there's something you really relate to or know someone who'd benefit from something in this email, please share it and pay it forward. Words are magical, and if I've learned anything from writing these emails to you for years, you never know when someone needs to hear the exact thing you've got to say.
