The weekly perspective
One question to ask yourself
How often does my body scream,You’re a crazy lady?
Constantly tired? Sore muscles and joints? Headaches in the afternoon? Dragging your ass to the gym on 4 hours sleep? New baby life aside, these are just some of the ways your body is literally screaming at you to slow down, to sleep, to take a day off. How often is this happening for you? And more importantly, how often are you honouring her?
Something to consider
"if you undervalue what you do, the world undervalues who you are. And when you undervalue who you are, the world undervalues what you do. My experience is that women are, unfortunately, masters at both.” - Suze Orman
I have a conversation about money most days, mostly with the coaches I support in some capacity. But this is relevant for every single one of you.
Journal on this - Do you undervalue what you do? The contribution you have? The skills? Or what about yourself, do you undervalue yourself? What impact is that having on the perception others have about you and your work? How can you change that?
One thing I'd tell my younger self.
"Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do." - Steven Pressfield
Journal on this - Where do you hold fear? Where does that fear come from? Are you allowing this fear to stop you from taking action that has the potential to healthfully and helpfully shape your future?
One thing to try this week
Read the news & learn about the world.
Kind of generic I know. But this weekend, I got lost in the news of what's happening around the world and as I spoke to my mum about the Gaza-Israel conflict, I reflected on how little I used to know about others because I was so obsessed with myself - my food, my body, my anxieties. I was so insular and stuck in overthinking, there were times when I couldn't tell you the name of the US president, let alone have any sort of discussion about countries I wouldn't fly to for a holiday. It's not a nice quality, and I'm a bit embarrassed by my past self. But when we know better, we do better. I'd love this week if you could educate yourself on the world. Many of you avoid it under the guise of 'not wanting to get lost in the pain of it' and I understand that too. Selfishly, this will help you gain some perspective. But really, we should all know what's happening in the world we live in, and contribute some of our time and energy at least..
A few things to tell you...
Do you feel guilty for taking time out the gym or off work? I hear you - you need to listen to this, it'll change the way you think about it.
There are some episodes of the ETPHD podcast where the questions hit different, they're sparkling new topics and we really enjoy the depth they bring out. This was one of those episodes - we spoke about our own healing journeys with food here.
Food impusiviity, ADHD, book recommendations and learning to surf your urges on EIQ this week.
It's wild how many of you are enjoying the mentoring podcast who aren't even coaches - all about finding success in your career whilst not losing your mind. This week - looking after yourself when you're stressed, instagram engagement and Anna having a rant here.
One more thing...
Please share your favourite stuff.
I'm really trying to have a more positive impact this year (it's where this Monday email spawned from). If there's something you really relate to or know someone who'd benefit from something in this email, please share it and pay it forward. Words are magical, and if I've learned anything from writing these emails to you for years, you never know when someone needs to hear the exact thing you've got to say.
