The weekly perspective
One question to ask yourself
As I look back on today, what did I do that was actually worth my time?
Use this as a nightly journaling prompt. Remember that 'worth it' doesn't just mean achievement. Rest is worthwhile, connecting with your partner in front of Netflix is worthwhile, filling your own cup is worthwhile (you get the idea).
Something to consider
“There are no maps - we are all pioneers” - Glennon Doyle
I love this reminder. That your path is created just for you. No person you admire, no social media influencer, no friend who seems to have it all, none of them have the same map as you. No one too, knows what you should do in this individual life you have been gifted. Every life is an unprecedented experiment. You can choose to see that as magical or terrifying - I choose the former every time.
One thing I'd tell my younger self.
The only way you can change how you feel is through becoming aware and curious of your inner experience, and learning to befriend what's going on inside.
I spent my entire teens and 20s disconnected from my body. Many of you reading this are disconnected from yours. You yo-yo diet, you overeat, you control your food, you binge, you over exercise, you under exercise, you're chronically stressed, you deny your emotions, you mislabel your feelings. These are so often born from disconnection between your mind, body and spirit. The only way to a healthful place with your body and a more peaceful way of living in her is through awareness, curiosity and compassion. I guarantee, there is no other way. Learn how to do that. And if you're lucky, you'll learn it before I did (peace is great for quality of life and also I'm sure your skin).
One thing to try this week
Keep a failure diary.
In your journal, at the end of each day, reflect on the following:
One thing I failed at today is...
How did I cope?
What did I learn?
Let's start working on your relationship with failure. The bravest, most successful, wholehearted living happens when we learn to celebrate our failures as signs of our courage. Remember, perfectionist isn't something to be celebrated or stuck with. It's something to be challenged.
A few things to tell you...
We have an incredible new coach on team ETPHD and she's now taking on clients. Holly has over 10 years experience in supporting people to heal their relationships with food and has some incredible educational experience in binge eating and beyond too. If you've been debating joining us, now's the time whilst Holly has her initial spaces open. Book a quick chat with her here.
Cancer rehab considerations, secret eating and sugar addiction are all topics we covered in the latest EIQ Nutrition podcast. Listen to it here.
Are you having a tough time right now? Struggling to stick to your healthy routine and goals? You need to listen to this.
One more thing...
Please share your favourite stuff.
I'm really trying to have a more positive impact this year (it's where this Monday email spawned from). If there's something you really relate to or know someone who'd benefit from something in this email, please share it and pay it forward. Words are magical, and if I've learned anything from writing these emails to you for years, you never know when someone needs to hear the exact thing you've got to say.
